Thursday 20th January – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington Marina – cloudy with some light rain.

It’s been really poor for windsurfing for several months now so I was keen to get out today with the temperature to break double figures with a good breeze from the SW, the only trouble being I have a chesty cough but I decided to give it a go! With high water late in the afternoon I had time to do my exercises first before heading over to Leveington arriving at the marina around midday with the tide still pretty low. I set up my foil board with the short mast again, but sail size was harder, the wind was building and with gusts to 20 knots I decided to take a chance with my 5.5. It topk 14 tacks to reach deep water which is no problem but I soon realised to the wind was too light for the 5.5, after one long flying run I had at least an hour floundering about hoping for the wind to fill with the inactivity my feet just got cold. I was joined on the water by David Coles an ex-foiuler now on a longboard with 9.5 with 3 wingers coming out late in the afternoon. Just when I was thinking od calling it a day the wind filled in and I had some really good long runs from the marina down towards Pin Mill so in the end it was not too bad a session despite being full of germs, cloudy with some light rain, its supposed to be windy again tomorrow but I am not sure I will go as feeling pretty rough at the moment! So after a good hour I called it a day, packed up, showered and headed for home to be entertained by the Granddaughter, the lovely Maeva who is just full of fun!
